How do you define educational equity?
Educational equity means that every student receives the specific supports, opportunities, and resources they need to succeed—not just equal treatment, but intentional action to address systemic barriers. It recognizes that students start from different places due to historical, social, and economic factors, and that justice in education requires us to respond to those differences with compassion, high expectations, and structural change. Equity goes beyond academics—it means creating learning environments where students feel safe, affirmed, and seen for who they are. It requires that we amplify student voice, challenge implicit bias, and reimagine school systems that have traditionally served some while excluding others. Ultimately, educational equity is about unlocking the full potential of every learner, especially those who have been historically underserved or marginalized. It’s not just a goal—it’s a daily commitment to fairness, dignity, and opportunity for all.
